Muhammad was born in Mecca in  the Arabian Peninsula in 571.He was the Islamic prophet who unified Arabia under Islam.
Muhammad was orphaned at an early age.He lived with his uncle and he worked as a merchant.
He went to a cave in the mountains to pray and, when he was 40, he was visited by Gabriel and he received his first revelation from God.Three years later Muhammad proclaimed that "God is one " and that he was a prophet and messenger of God.
He was persecuted in Mecca and he had to migrate to Medina .This event , he Hijra, marks the beginning of the islamic calendar.
Later, he marched on the city of Mecca and he destruyed the pagan idols in the city.
Before his death, most of the Arabian Peninsula had converted to islam.
The Quram is the central religious text of Islam. Muslims believe that it represents the words of god revealed to Muhammad through the archangel Gabriel.
